The act of recycling cardboard has always been an obsession for the Japanese architect Shigeru ban. From the outset, he has reinterpreted and applied this specific material in various ways. During his design career he has been able to continuously research the possibilities of cardboard tubes to its fullest and hence used it as a screen, for bridges, cathedrals, furniture and disaster relief shelters. Once more, Ban has pursued his personal vision and thereby reconfirms the possibilities of this material entity. Maru, which signifies circle, refers to the hollow tube sections. It combines the art of formal reduction with a sophisticated assembly of geometrical shapes. This plate is a hexagon, which can be assembled to form a large and wavy sculpture. Made from cardboard. Dimensions: 370mm diameter
